Concordia heads to NAIA tournament after 2-1 win

The Concordia Cavaliers let out their own version of a Rebel Yell after a hard-fought, 2-1 win over Simon Fraser Saturday at Delta Park earned them a spot in the NAIA women’s soccer tournament.

Concordia, ranked No. 1 for much of the season, is headed to Decatur, Alabama, for the 16-team tournament, which begins Nov. 29.

It’s the second-straight year the team will appear in the tournament. Last year, the Cavs reached the semifinals before losing to Lee University of Cleveland, Tenn. Lee, the two-time defending champion, won its first-round game 7-0 over Tennessee Wesleyan Saturday.

Concordia got two goals from senior Kaitlyn Tebbs to improve to 19-0-2 on the season. She scored in the 47th minute for a 1-0 lead, then tallied again in the 72nd minute to break a 1-all tie.

Concordia plays Hastings, Neb., in the round of 16, Nov. 29.
