Oregon edges Weber State, Duquesne next
EUGENE – Joevan Catron scored 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Oregon men’s basketball team to a comeback 68-59 win over Weber State in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational presented by Zebra Pen at Matthew Knight Arena on Wednesday night.
The effort was the Ducks’ (17-17) senior’s 11th career double-double and his third this season as he finished 6-of-15 from the field and drained a career-best 12-of-13 free throws to pace Oregon in the win.
E.J. Singler also scored in double figures, finishing with 16 points.
The teams got their points in very different ways in the opening 20 minutes. The Ducks enjoyed an 18-8 scoring advantage in the paint while the Wildcats drained 6-of-15 (40 percent) of their three-pointers and held UO without a three-point make (0-of-11) in the first half.
An 11-1 run by Weber State erased an early 9-5 Oregon lead and made it 16-10 seven minutes in. The Ducks countered with a 14-2 spurt of their own and with 3:53 held a 24-18 advantage. Lindsey Hughey capped a 7-0 surge by Weber State with a fade-away jumper to give the Wildcats a 25-24 lead with 57 ticks remaining in the first half. Garrett Sim answered the score with a layup to put Oregon back in front, but Hughey drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to finish the first half with a game-high 10 points and send WSU into the locker room with a 28-26 lead.
A Weber State layup made it 30-26 a minute and a half into the second half. A steal and dunk by Singler pulled Oregon back within two and Sim connected for UO’s first three-pointer of the game with 17:25 to play to put Oregon up 31-30.
The contest was tied at 35 apiece with 13:05 to play before a Catron free throw put the Ducks ahead for good. UO expanded its lead to 53-46 on a pair of free throws by Singler, but a Kyle Bullinger trifecta made it a four-point lead with 5:17 to go. Oregon continued getting to the free throw line down the stretch and connected on 19-of-21 (90.5 percent) second-half free throws to salt the game away.
Oregon shot 55.6 percent in the second half to finish at 41.2 percent from the floor for the game. Weber State was held to 35.6 percent shooting, but connected on 12-of-31 (38.7 percent) three-pointers to stay close throughout. The Ducks made only 3-of-15 (20 percent) from long range, but went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc in the second half. Oregon edged Weber State on the glass, 36-35, and outscored the Wildcats, 30-16, in the paint.
The Ducks will host Duquesne at Matthew Knight Arena in the CBI quarterfinals on Monday, March 21.

auburn cheaters
Folks, I made a post on the open Board that people seem to misunderstand. I have reason to believe that Miss State paid Cam Newton. I have reason to believe thatr Miss State stabbed Scott Moore in the back, even though Scott does not agree. The issue at this point is not whether the Barn paid Cam Newton, the issue is simpler than that. The issue is did Auburn know that Cam Newton was paid by Miss State when they played him, was Cam Newton eligible, and did Cam Newton lie to the NCAA. The answer to all of those is yes and if it is yes that means that Auburn could be in more trouble than if they paid Cam Newton. The hard fact that people are over looking is that Cam Newton was not on Auburn's radar in November 2009 because Auburn knew he was being paid to go to State. How did they know? They knew just like everyone knew he was being shopped and the bidders were Tennessee, Oklahoma and State.
Facrts to consider:
1. State did not repot to the SEC the facts until the summer of 2010, after the cover my tail report in January.
2. State did not break this story.
3. Why did State not say anything before the Auburn game?
4. Urban Meyer only broke the story to the Times, when it looked like Auburn could win the SEC West and his Gators were in first in the East looking at a game with USCe in the Swamp and then the SECCG between them and Auburn. Urban wanted to do what was necessary to win the SEC and if it meant blowing his friend then so be it.
5. Why was Mullen not offered the Florida Job when he was the natural?
6. Why did the MSU AD not cooperate with the sec.
7. Why did the Mississippoi officials suddenly drop the agent investigation?
8. Why did MSU ask Bond to stab Scott Moore in the back?
Those are MSU questions to answer, and yes I have the name of the person that paid the first money from Miss State to Cam Newton. and they needed Bond to make the second payment, which he did not. $50K is State's usual MO.
As for the Barn, a late player on Newton, how did they get into the game.
1. Tennessee was the second bidder for Cam Newton, but they were outbid by State.
2. After Stae defaulted on the second payment the Newton's went back to Tennessee, but at this time, Kifffen already knew he was leaving Tennessee for USCw and he had no use for Newton. The deal was cut on Kiffen going to USCw in mid December.
3. Oklahoma was already under NCAA investigation and could not take a chance on a one year wonder and they already had a QB. There was no need for Oklahoma to bid on Newton.
4. Auburn had shown an interest in Newton, but not a serious interest because they were investing serious money in other directions.
5. On the 28th of December Cecil Newton approached Auburn with the full story and even though Auburn was in the middle of bowl game preperations, the Newtons were advised that Auburn would take Cam and they would have to work out the details later, but Auburn would not pay the kind of money Cecil wanted. That is where the basic church repairs comes into play. Auburn could not raise anymore money. Remember Auburs major player in paying for three big money recruits already, Lowder had gone belly up and McGregor had bigger problems than Auburn football. Crawford and Kennedy were already mad at the Barn over Tubberville.
You may have heard the name Crawford somewhere else and on this board in January of last year.
6. When Bond refused to help State with the money and State had no one else to go to, the Newton's had two choices, go to State and forget the rest of the money or to go the the Barn and rely that the Barn would help out when they could. They went to the Barn.
What is important here.
1. The Barn knows everything that came down.
2. Cecil Newton solicited the Barn for money.
3. Cam Newton either knew or he is the dumbest person in the world.
4. Cecil spent money on three new vehicles.
5. Enough Church repairs were made to keep the church from being condemmed.
6. The repairs were made by someone with enough clout to get the building inspector to do the final inspection, even though the contractor that permitted the work has never called for the inspection.
7, Scott Moore has been stabbed in the back by certain people at State, but that Scott is 100% accurate in what he has stated as fact.
8. Auburn would have paid Cam Newton, except for the money that was already committed.
9. Cem Newton went to Auburn because State defaulted and he was not going to give it away.
10. Mullen let Cam Newton play against Mississippi State without breaking the story. Meyer did not want Newton to play against Florida. The information came from Meyer to the Times.
This post states my beliefs on the matter and as Scott Moore says, connect the dots and they are not good for either State nor Auburn.
The NCAA will blast Auburn on events involving recruiting, sex parties, clothing purchases, and a few other matters, but they will not touch Cam Newton. For the NCAA to find that Cam Newon played illegally would be an act of suicide on the part of the NCAA and they cannot afford to do that at this time. The NCAA will nail the Barn hard on something else and it will be hard. My prediction is that Troopa is gone by December.
Folks take your blinders off, neither State nor Auburn are clean, the only difference is that no one ever worries about State. Well you had better worry, because the only difference between State and Auburn is that at Auburn cheating has been taken to a different level.
