Sevens tourney gets rugby teams primed for fall

Beach, ORSU take top honors at annual event

The team from Old Puget Sound Beach took top honors in the 5th annual Roy Lucas 7s rugby tournament Saturday at Madison High School.

The Beach 7 rolled through the day unbeaten and beat Team Tsunami, a two-time champion, 43-17 in the final.

In the women's bracket, the host Oregon Rugby Sports Union team won the top honor with a 37-0 win over Corvallis.

The Rugby Union regular season, which involves teams of 15 players per side, begins in fall, although Rugby 7s is headed toward becoming an Olympic sport in 2016.
