Class of 2012 heads for spring championships

Golf, tennis, track and field, softball and baseball close out prep sports year

The third and final season of high school sports is underway with OSAA state championships in five sports ready to play out beginning in mid-May.

Golf, tennis, track and field, softball and baseball have state finals that lead to the Class of 2012 graduating in six classifications.


The golf season concludes for boys and girls at four courses around the state, Monday and Tuesday, May 14-15.

The Class 6A and 5A boys tournament is held at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell, while the 6A and 5A girls tournament is held at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis.

Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks plays host to the 4A and 3A boys tournament, while Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond is host to the 4A and 3A girls tournament.


The prep tennis community features three classifications, with championships at three sites, May 17-19.

Boys in Class 6A and 5A play out their seasons at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center, while 6A and 5A girls close at the Portland Tennis Center. The Class 4A tournament is held at the University of Oregon.


Track and field is the lone spring sport with six championships, with two sites each playing host to three classifications.

The Class 3A, 2A and 1A meet is held at Western Oregon University, May 18-19, while the 6A, 5A and 4A meet is held at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field, May 25-26.


The complex at Oregon State University plays host to the five classifications with finals, June 1 and 2.


Volcanoes Stadium, the home of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes of the Northwest League, is host for Class 6A through 2A finals, June 1 and 2.
