The Newberg boys and girls will look to defend their Class 6A state titles in Water Polo this season after accomplishing the feat of bringing both titles to one school.

Newberg’s boys outscored its four opponents in the state tournament 71-23, including 12-5 over Southridge in the title game. The Tigers lost just one game all season, dropping the championship match of an invitational tournament in Modesto, Calif., to Granite Bay, Calif.

The Newberg girls were even more dominating, outscoring their opponents 53-6 in four state tournament games. They won the title match 7-4 over Tualatin. Newberg also lost just once all season, dropping the title match of the Newberg Invitational 10-6 to Marin, Calif.

In Class 5A, Ashland and Parkrose split the titles. Ashland won the boys title 11-10 over Parkrose, while Parkrose won the girls title 16-9 over Ashland.
