Eastern Oregon gets back on track in wild CCC hoop race

Cascade Conference heads to key doubleheader Wednesday

Perennial conference title contender Eastern Oregon swung through Portland over the weekend and made itself known as the league heavyweight it is with a pair of victories.

The Mountaineers beat conference upstart Warner Pacific 50-46 on Friday and then fellow upstart Multnomah 74-65 Saturday to improve to 6-3 overall, 2-3 in conference play. That's still behind Warner Pacific in the Cascade Conference standings, but showcased the team is back to the form it had before a three-game losing streak that started on its road swing through Southern Oregon.

Southern Oregon, ranked 20th nationally, continued its strong season with a pair of road wins - at Evergreen and then at Northwest - by a combined 42 points to improve to 4-0 in conference, 8-2 overall. The Raiders have won their four conference games by an average of 22 points.

Oregon Tech improved to 10-0, 4-0, with road wins at Northwest and Evergreen by a combined 58 points. Its conference wins include a 68-67 win over Eastern Oregon.

OIT is set to play at Southern Oregon on Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. start time.

The women's game begins a stellar doubleheader with the men's teams. from the two schools. OIT is ranked 24th national in the NAIA men's poll at 8-2, 3-1 with its lone conference loss to No. 5 College of Idaho. Southern Oregon is 6-4, 4-0, settling at 4-0 for the first time in eight years.
