Oregon softball earns Series spot; OSU, Ducks play host to baseball regionals

Softball and baseball are hitting the big-time this week at the NCAA Div. I level.
The University of Oregon's softball program is heading for the World Series for the seventh time after a two-game sweep of Liberty on its home field in Eugene this weekend.
Meanwhile, both Oregon and Oregon State are playing host to four-team regionals in the 64-team baseball tournament.
The Ducks begin the eight-team softball Series in Oklahoma City, Okla., Thursday against UCLA at 6:30 p.m. (PST). Oregon, at No. 16, is the lowest-seeded team left in the 64-team tournament, which is being covered by ESPN and ESPN2. Oregon last reached the Series in 2018.
Also in the Series are Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Texas Tech.
Oregon State, despite playing an independent schedule due to the collapse of the Pac-12, earned the No. 8 seed in the baseball tourney, and will play host to USC, TCU and Saint Mary's in its regional beginning Friday in Corvallis. The Beavers have won three Series titles in the past two decades, including 2019.
Oregon, which is seeking its first Series title, begins its run with a home game against Utah Valley Friday in Eugene. The Ducks, who are seeded 12th, also play host to Arizona and Cal Poly. Oregon most recently played host to a regional in 2021.
The Ducks have appeared in the College World Series just once: 1954.
