
Timbers select all-time XI
The 50th anniversary starting 11 will be honored during game with Minnesota Saturday

The Portland Timbers are headed toward their all-time XI celebration for the team's 50th anniversary on Saturday when they play host to Minnesota United at Providence Park.
The team has been releasing the name of one play per day for the past two weeks in regards to fan voting, and will honor the group during the event, which is set for kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
Portland sits in sixth place in the Western Conference at 33 points after 22 matches (9 wins, 7 losses, 6 draws) following a 1-0 loss to Real Salt Lake Wednesday at home. Minnesota is third in the West with 40 points through 23 matches (11-5-7).
The league All-Star Game is scheduled for Wednesday when the MLS All-Stars meet Liga MX All-Stars at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas.f
Portland returns to MLS action following the All-Star Game break at LAFC, July 25.
The fan selection process finished with 10 players from the renewed franchise that started in 2001 in the United Soccer Leagues and moved into MLS in 2011. The franchise started in 1975 in the North American Soccer League, and played eight seasons there before folding.

Only Charles played in the North American Soccer League.
Chara is the lone representative still active on the team, although Nagbe is still in the league - with Columbus. Blanco has played with USL side Miami FC this year. Asprilla plays for Athletico National of the Columbian Liga A.
The team did not ask fans to select its all-time coach, who would likely be between Giovanni Savarese and Caleb Porter.
