What's a big number got to do with basketball?

OIT and Multnomah were a hoop scorekeeper's delight Saturday

62

Saturday's women's basketball game at Oregon Tech produced some amazing numbers when the Owls played host to the Multnomah Lions.

The game, for starters, tipped off 45 minutes late due to travel problems Multnomah had getting to Klamath Falls from Ashland, where they played Southern Oregon the night before.

Then all that pent-up energy turned into one helluva game, starting with 62 during an 87-71 Owls win. Sixty-two, that's the number of free throws the teams combined for, including 33 by the Lions. They made 29. That's 29 of 33 from the free-throw line.

Savanah Huerta and Kailyn Allison of Multnomah each made all eight of their attempts.

Oregon Tech made 23 of its 29 attempts.

For the game, the teams combined to make 52 of the 62 attempts - 83 percent (an NBA-worthy figure if NBA players focused on those attempts).

(For comparison, Warner Pacific’s game at Southern Oregon the same day featured 29 personal fouls and 22 free-throw attempts.)

Rarely does any game feature even 40 free-throw attempts.

Oregon Tech had several other numbers of note starting with its 70 rebounds - 37 of them on the offensive end. And 1,000. Junior guard Olivia Sprague scored 13 points to become the 13th player in the team's history to pass that mark.
